Fall Break Highlights*
So its the first day of a 4-day weekend (aka fall break). Last year’s fall break was 10 days and I went to Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Berlin.
So far, this year, I’ve visited the Honda dealership.
It all started with a little matter I (and the rest of the automobile world) like to call the “check engine light.” Mom’s vehicle needed an oil change so we thought we’d get up early and go together. We got there at 7:30am to find that they don’t actually open until 8am. Then, after we checked in we went to the waiting area. The waiting area is actually quite nice and I secretly enjoy it. In fact, I can’t wait until my next inspection (free newspapers, computer hookups, CNN…what more could you need?)
However, this morning the TV was on exceptionally loud. That wasn’t the problem so much as was the fact that it was on an interview show in which a “doctor” was pitching his new bowel-cleansing program.
I’m not kidding. It was very graphic.
It actually’ve would make an interesting psychological case study, because no one said anything or attempted to change it for a good 30 minutes or so. It was like the classic “Kitty Genovese” case when no one reported the violence/murder they saw outside their apt windows because they assumed someone else would. Except, this was an assault on our ears. We’re talking in depth descriptions as to why you should clean your bowel, how colon cleansing can change your life, and, my personal favorite, the numerous references to colon cleansing in the Bible. Mom tried to hide her hysterical laughter behind a newspaper when they mentioned the consistency stool should be and the amount of mucus you should be producing. If that’s not going to make a Honda customer out of someone, I don’t know what is.
Then, the Honda man came in and informed us that there actually was a legitimate problem with my automobile. We kind of just stared at him and then put him on the phone with Dad. Guess what kids?! Christmas came early this year….and I got a new catalytic converter!!!
I was so excited when my car, repairs and all, was finished before mom’s (haha sucker) but was then talked into staying and waiting for her’s because “she needed to take mine because she had things to do.” And when I say “talked into” I mean “told to.”
So I listened to Jason Mraz on my MP-3 player (side note irrelevant family joke: “Is this my own I-POD?!”) and watched news of a ground beef E-COLI recall on CNN….not completely unrelated to colon cleansing.
* I’m not trying to sound whiny, I do actually enjoy the eccentricities and ludacrisy of life’s moments.

That’s a good report. There’s a mom joke, a PG quote AND colon cleansing. If only my fall break had been so exciting…oh wait. I don’t get fall break.
