Pop Culture Yay

And the Actor goes to…

Marcia Gay Harden’s left boob for best solo performance in a potential wardrobe malfunction thriller.

I was told to also post thoughts on the SAG Awards. I think it is supposed to be a good way to help me overcome my Pop Culture Yay writer’s block. Here it goes:

 - I have always been able to look past the mediocre red carpet correspondents, but Ryan Seacrest really did it this time. During red carpet pre-show festivities, E! cut to a shot of John Krasinski walking around and talking on his phone. They then cut back to Ryan who said, “There’s some guy checking his messages.”  Some guy? I’m sorry, what?

- I am trying not to duplicate thoughts, but Abigail’s handbag full of lipgloss and homemade cookies in a Ziploc was one of the highlights of my evening as well. That and the fact that she was a 10 year old wearing Jimmy Choos. Mini Choos….nothing cuter, and at the same time more nauseating, than that.

- Remember when The Office won for best ensemble in a comedy series?! Yeah, me too…

- So, basically Jennifer Hudson is going to win an Oscar. I’m still pulling for Helen Mirren for best actress though.

- I haven’t seen The Last King of Scotland and I’m sure Forest is wonderful in it because he is an amazing actor, but for the love of the Oscar can we please get Leo an award. He’s laughed in the face of teenbopperness, overcome child actor curses, and made incredible films for the past several years. It’s true, I used to have pictures of him in my room and locker, but I say this as a film fan, not a former Tiger Beat reader. I realize these award shows are not lifetime achievement awards, but I think he deserves to recognized, especially when he is in a category competing against himself.

- I know House is a TV show, but don’t you think the greatest idea is for Hugh Laurie to attend the Oscars and give acceptances speeches for anyone who can not attend or feels camera shy? Or maybe he could just get up and talk. So funny. And British. And funny.

- Is it weird to cry during award shows? I mean, during the In Memoriam it’s acceptable I suppose. But, what if you find tears in your eyes when they announced Little Miss Sunshine as the winner? Or, maybe when Chandra Wilson won, you found your eyes a little blurry just because she looked so happy? I mean, I’m not saying that I did….it’s just a hypothetical-totally-not-related-to-me question.

- Was anyone else wondering why Chad Michael Murray and his “probably also had cookies in her purse because she’s about 12″ fiancee were there walking the red carpet? And who gave him the flat iron?

Jake Gyllenhaal = perfectly disheveled hair    CMM= Zack Morris in need of a hair cut

(although, totally stoked for One Tree Hill this week!)

Overall, I found the SAG awards to be fun and enjoyable. All of the winners were definitely deserving. (However, that said, can we end the Dreamgirls hype? It’s a great movie. They won some awards. Done.)
