Fundamental Attribution Error
After a brief email conversation with my sister, I was led to the revelation that perhaps all of these socialites and party-going celebrities aren’t as superficial as I once feared. I passed judgment too quickly. You see, its that damn fundamental attribution error. I like to attribute others’ moments of mishaps and bad press to character flaws and big egos. Yet, maybe they were just having off evenings (some more frequently than others.) Now, my tendency to make quick misjudgments* is all true and I mean that sincerely, but the reasoning behind my recognition of this flaw was the following thought with which I’ve been struggling:
There is no way hollywood starlets are as superficial as they appear to be. Why you may ask? Go on People, TMZ, Perez Hilton, etc. and look at frequent “play boys.” The recurring characters? DJ AM? Brandon Davis? I’m not saying I’m a knock-out or anything but these are some of the most beautiful women in the world and these are the fellas they are passing around? As my sister pointed out, they’ve gotta be about the inner beauty.
Beauty is the eye of the beholder, blah, blah, I know, I know. And, I do hope that these people all find love and are happy, etc. etc. But, seriously? Â
Â
* My current quick judgments that are irritating me are people who get to interview amazing actors, muscians, etc and totally suck at doing it. (i.e. Guiliana on E! and USA Today’s PopCandy Podcaster Whitney). There is nothing worse than listening to an interview and feeling completely awkward and uncomfortable for the interviewee. I’m sure I couldn’t do much better, but that’s why I don’t do it. I don’t make the big bucks.  Â
