It’s a beautiful thing…
Just when I thought TV dvds were the greatest thing since sliced bread, my world is turned around. Now, along comes a new, wonderful, and yet, oh-so-simple-why-didn’t-they-think-of-that-before idea - TV episodes on the internet! Free of charge! I’m not talking bootleg versions or even YouTube additions. I mean, networks themselves, posting episodes for you to watch in case you missed out. It’s beyond sliced bread. It’s like low-carb, cinnamon-swirl toaster slices.
I know, it might seem trivial. Perhaps I am over-exaggerating the importance of this new television viewing medium. But, I have spent the past several months slowly warming to the idea and well, I’m hooked. As has been previously documented, my sister and I both are without the crucial 21st century gadget - TiVo. Because of this I know far too well that pit-in-my-stomach discomfort of sitting in a meeting or evening event and thinking “crap! I didn’t rewind the tape or set the timer! CRAP CRAP CRAP. Jack is going to get his head blown off and put it back together while saving babies from a burning building and I am going to miss it!”
Not anymore my friends, not anymore. Thanks to Fox.com and MySpace, you can watch it. For free. Sorry I-tunes.
I find Internet television to be especially helpful when 2 of your favorite shows are on simultaneously (i.e. Ugly Betty and The Office). I initially only watched Internet TV for dire VCR-mishap occasions, but then my viewing habits started changing.
Last night, I told my roommate, “Ok, I’m going to go to bed and watch Internet TV until I fall asleep.” “What’s Internet TV?” she asked. “You know, TV that’s on the Internet. I’m just going to see what’s on.” Now, thanks to that whole “whenever I watch a pilot episode I immediately feel as thought I must not be a quitter” mentality,  I watch October Road on ABC.com
(ok, so maybe that is also partly because the main character used to be on One Tree Hill).
Moreover, because of the easy accessibility of online episodes, I have found myself crazily thinking “hmm, I’ve got about 40 minutes to kill, maybe I should check out what this silly Dancing With The Stars thing is all about…” Don’t worry, I have yet to indulge that thought, but still, 6 months ago, that would’ve never occurred to me.
ABC, FOX, CW, and others, I thank you. My I-tunes budget thanks you.

p.s. Also, on a side note, how much does it suck when all the shows go on hiatus? Brutal. Â

Who said “What’s internet TV?”? Not Sarah, I’m assuming.
I love DVR. That is the first improvement we will make to our home after the wedding. I’m housesitting now at a house that got DVR and they just bought a widescreen, plasma, flat panel tv-I went through the entire tv listing last night and added anything and everything I ever had a desire to watch.
I had a vcr mishap recently and I missed the George and Izzie hook up! My stomach is still in knots about it.
I haven’t graduated to internet tv because I don’t have high speed internet at home (I know, I’m a cave man.)
