I am playing “Writer” today.
I am at a local coffee shop, attempting to edit a story I wrote. I had planned to get to the coffee shop by 9 am today to start editing, and I did! Well, at least I got here within 30 minutes of 9 am, so if you were deciding whether I got here at 9 or 10 you would definitely round down to 9. So, yay!
So far I have eaten a gigantic scone, reread my editor’s comments, and stared at my manuscript. I suppose I’ll get to the actual editing at some point. I’m kind of blanking on what to write right now.
It has suddenly occurred to me that maybe I shouldn’t have eaten my scone while leaning over Pete’s laptop (mine’s still busted), so I’m going to take care of cleaning off the crumbs before I do anything else. Perhaps I’ll get hit upside the head by the muse in the keyboard cleaning process. Otherwise, I’m completely stuck.
Furthermore, the coffee shop is playing Madonna’s Immaculate Collection. How can I write to this soundtrack? It makes me want to dance, or wear lace gloves.
Star light….STARBRIGHT! First star I see to-night

Her Madgesty just told me that I could dance….for inspiration…but I don’t think the other coffee shop patrons would appreciate it. However, music CAN be such a revelation. It’s a tough call. Maybe just a little head bopping at my seat…
You know that I used to think that song was saying You must be my lakista? My college roommate (because that’s how recently I was corrected) asked me if I had ever noticed the title. Thank you, but clearly no. I am not in tune to Madonna’s genius. I just enjoy her dope beats even if they don’t make any sense to me.
That is awesome. Also in college: This guy asked me, “What does ‘kwoizing’ mean?” It took me forever to figure out what he was talking about. I asked for context. He supplied the full line–”Let the kwoizing”–and noted that it was from Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” Yeah.
