“Hi, hell…”
Dear Pearl,
You are my hero. Your work means so much to me. I really admire how you take roles that represent strong women, the types of women who really stand up for what they believe in. You are such a great role model for little girls everywhere. If sometime in the future I have a daughter and she wants to be a police officer but people say, ” you can’t do that, you’re just a little girl…” I’ll be able to look at her and say, “don’t listen to those punks, look at Pearl!”
I also admire the ways in which you tackle the difficult and controversial issues of economic hardships and alcoholism. I could really identify with the landlord in the critically acclaimed film “Will Ferrell Meets His Landlord.” She had a tough job to do and was very misunderstood. I was reminded, on a smaller scale, of another important film and musical addressing the issues of RENT. There are crucial issues we can all learn from you about relationships, life, and ourselves. You portrayed a woman who was frustrated with finances, tired of being ignored, and, I think, simply wanted to be loved.
Thank you, Pearl, for making us laugh, making us cry, and making us think. Your works will never be forgotten. While it pains me to see your impeccable portrayal of law enforcement and know it was your final performance, I also know that there is a little bit of you in all of us.
Maybe sometime you’re in the area we could hang out and have 4 beers.
Sincerely,
Lindsay
