I am one of those people who giggle uncontrollably at LOLcats. I can’t explain why I find them so hilarious, so I searched the internet for answers. I found this article that tried to explain the LOLcats phenomenon, and this post that linked LOLcats to gaming culture. I think for me the hilarity is less about the cats and more about the crazy grammar and spelling. Therefore I find non-cat LOL* spinoffs equally if not more humorous than the cats, and this site is my current favorite.
PS: TIME magazine has also weighed in on the LOL* phenomenon.
