Free Association: New Yorker-Constitution-$2 Bill-Astronaut Jones
I was reading Jill Lepore’s “Prior Convictions” in the April 14 New Yorker (I told myself I would not be that girl who only read the Clooney profile) and seized upon this quote:
“Some men look at constitutions with sanctimonious reverence, and deem them like the arc of the covenant, too sacred to be touched. They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human.” -Thomas Jefferson
Now I know this quote is supposed to make me reflect on how we view the Founding Fathers and how various political figures have trumpeted a rhetorical WWFFD? as a way of girding their positions, but really, it made me think first and only of this:
