Oh No She Didn’t!
So Katherine Heigl didn’t submit her name for Emmy consideration because she felt like she didn’t deserve it. I can’t really comment on this because I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy (I’ll pause for the gasps…I’m used to them), but I find the fact that she did this absolutely fascinating.
Can you imagine the reaction of Grey’s writers when they read that? I’d like to be a fly on that writers’ room wall. An “insider” on the Entertainment Weekly website said, “”It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”
Sometimes when celebrities are vocal and blunt, it can come across as phony and obnoxious. And, I do see the writers’ point. Every award winner always thanks the ” cast and crew…who have become more like my family” and I do feel badly if she is in any way ungrateful. I know there are many talented people who make the show possible but do not get the credit they deserve.
Yet, I still find her refreshing. I respect her notion of wanting to maintain the “integrity of the academy.” Perhaps I am just tired of seeing the same shows year after year. There are a lot of good television shows and actors out there and they aren’t all on The Sopranos (R.I.P.) and Desperate Housewives. Let’s throw Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) a friggin’ bone here.

I feel like there must’ve been a more diplomatic way to say what she said. “I wasn’t given the material this year [to warrant consideration]” clearly casts blame on the writers, and there must’ve been a less finger-pointery choice of words available to her.
