I’m Growing Up

I think this is the appropriate venue for me to announce a major life change. I have finished watching One Tree Hill.

That’s right. It’s true.

I wish I could tell you that I cut it out cold turkey. But, unfortunately, I’ve watched 2 episodes online. It all went down about a month ago. This is how it played out:

Lindsay is sitting on the couch…right side of the couch. Her legs up on the coffee table. She holds a glass of ice water. She still hasn’t changed out of her workout clothes even though it has been about 2 hours since she went to the gym

*begin scene*

(for cinematic purposes, Lindsay talks to herself).

“I should check to see what is recording tonight.”

picks up remote and pushes the blessed green List button

scrolls down and gasps

“Scheduling conflict? And another one…and another one”

“Chuck, One Tree Hill, The Bachelor, Gossip Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory…”

(off script note: Some of these shows are the roommates. Yes, I watch a lot of TV but goodness gracious no…that would be insane)

“Oh no, OH NO. Something has to go. But what? Ok, luckily Chuck is a rerun. So, I’ll cross the Chuck and How I Met Your Mother bridge when I get to it. But, not tonight.”

“It’s time. I knew this day would come.”

Lindsay is filled with anguish, nostalgia, and thoughtfulness (Yeah, all three at one time. It’s my script.)

“One Tree Hill, you were a constant trashy tv companion throughout college. We saw many ups and downs. Ok, most of the downs were yours…secret half brothers, alcoholism, murder, single teenage parents, stalkers, robbery, murder again…but I was faithful. Now, it is time for me to say goodbye. I’ve graduated. I have a real job. It’s time I move on to more grownup television….like The Bachelor. I’m sorry, old friend.”

Lindsay slowly turns the screen to “Series Manager” and deletes

The conflicts on the List immediately clear up for the week. Everything seems right. It’s as though One Tree Hill was never there.

And the television spirits of the universe look down upon Lindsay and say,
“What the hell took you so long? About time.”

*end scene*

Peyton, Brooke, Lucas, Nate, Haley, Skills (Skillz?)…it’s been fun. See you in rerunland….
