ReTweet to Move Forward

I am all kinds of crazy for Twitter. It’s kind of surprising how many of my thoughts can be effectively conveyed in 140-character tweets. Does that make me a birdbrain? Lindsay did point out the frustration of getting to the end of your tweet, realizing you’ve gone over by like 5 characters, and having to go back and change your yours to urs and fors to 4s and anyones to ne1. But other than that, I love Twitter. Here are some of my favorite people that I follow. I’d love to get your recommendations on others I should add.

DavidGregory because he posts a regular roundup of articles one should read to stay informed. I LOVE that he does this. I also LOVE that while he has over 56K followers, he follows only 80 people, and those 80 include MCHammer.

Lindsaydec because we are related so I know she always reads my tweets. Also, she is funny.

wjpthomson because see above.

GMMR and DuckyDoesTV because they know TONS about TV and I feel like we could be friends in real life. For like, 15 minutes. Then they’d grow tired of me and go back to being awesome bloggers/podcasters/twitterers without me there getting in the way.

JohnCabrera because Hep Alien 4eva and his tweets are always interesting.

RainnWilson because RainnWilson.

BrentOMurphy because I greatly prefer reading his tweets to playing Scramble against him.

Danaynay because of tweets like this.

(And Amanda, of course, but I don’t know if she wants her Twitter feed published.)

Any suggestions for Twitterers I should add?

Wordy head-movies

So I was waiting at the doctor’s office last week, and I texted Lindsay to say that I was glad I had Coraline on my iPod Touch to keep me occupied. And she was like, “How do you have it on your iPod? Is it a bootleg?” and I explained that no, I had this text-only version of Coraline with few pictures and no video, so you had to imagine the action unfolding in your head. It’s a version of the movie that I call a wordy head-movie. So I thought I would post about a few other wordy head-movies that I have played on my brain-projector recently:

1. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I feel like I posted about this young adult book a long time ago, but I can’t find the post, so maybe I didn’t. I LOVE this book, and it’s currently on the NY Times bestseller list for children’s chapter books. It has a great premise and is well-written…it’s sad and suspenseful and an overall great read.

2. Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. This is another children’s book (middle grades), and it’s not new, but I hadn’t read it before I read it with my fifth graders this year. It’s a great example of a children’s book that can be enjoyed by adults: poignant scenes, memorable characters, layers of meaning…this is the first book that I’ve read with kids where they’ve asked if they can take the book home so their parents can read it.

3. Born Standing Up by Steve Martin. It’s no secret that Steve Martin is a very good writer. This memoir of his years as a stand-up comedian is a quick but worthwhile read. It made me want to listen to many of his early albums.

And of course,

It’s awesome. Read it ASAP so you can see the actual movie before it loses 3D screens to the Jonas Brothers. (Or, sorry, just “Jonas Brothers.” Because it’s way better to look pretentious than to have people erroneously stick a “the” before your “band” name.)

I’m Growing Up

I think this is the appropriate venue for me to announce a major life change. Read more…

Want inside information on your favorite shows?

If so, we cannot help you. You will have to go to a real pop culture web site. HOWEVER, if you want to know what we, a couple of nobodies, think about TV and stuff, or if you just want to help us feel loved, then please listen to our podcast! Our first (and rather roughly edited) podcast is UP! We discuss The Office episode “Lecture Circuit (Part II)” and 30 Rock episode “St. Valentine’s Day.” Oh and also the eighth episode of 24 season 7.

Now that I’ve listened to it, I think some of the things I say about Jim and Pam are unfair, but oh well. Perhaps my future podcasting self can argue against my past podcasting self.
